The wonderful knitted dolls by Nelly Bolgert (Germany)

Nelly was born in Chelyabinsk, lived in Kazakhstan, she graduated from the pedagogic university, the faculty of art and graphics. She's been teaching at the child art school in the town of Jambula (history of arts, composition). Now she lives in Germany (Chemnitz), she's working with children.

•  Nelly, what is your hobby?

•  I make dolls, knit, do the applique work, paint on silk…Nowadays many people are fond of the needlecraft. They do it professionally, or use it as a hobby. Well, needlework for me has become an irreplaceable passion. I feel safe and cozy with my crochet – hooks, knitting needles, scissors and needles; they give me a true feeling of home…

• Why did you get interested by making dolls?

•  This direction of my creative interests has to do with my childhood, to be more exact , - with the fact that in those times very few manufactured dolls were made, and I had to make them for myself and for my friends. Of course, these were mostly paper dolls, but they were fine for us at that time. Even then I knew that I would be doing real dolls some day, if not for myself, then for my children. And I think I managed to accomplish this wish.

•  When did you make your first knitted doll?

•  My first real doll was made in 1994 . It wasn't very good though, but this fact didn't stop me, - second doll followed the first one, then there was the third one and the forth one, and now I have several tens of them. I hope you will like them, and I hope that each doll will find its won spectator.

• Tell us about your creative work.

•  I love crafts and needlework. That's why I couldn't help singling out on my Internet home page the place for different paper articles (I like paper in the special way), articles from fiber, threads, and modern synthetic materials. Unlike some of my opponents, I consider that one doesn't need special tools or materials if one wants to go in for crafts: all of these things are around us, we only need to look closely. I make a lot of articles for different holidays: For the New Year, Christmas, Easter… Or I often make them without any particular reason: when I want to do something just for pleasure, I don't need to look for the right occasion. I create something almost every day, because my job in connected with children in the extended-day-schools.
